The Importance on Weight Training as You Age: Why The Pit Puts Emphasis on Strength Equipment

This year, there is an unusual rush of new members flocking towards the weight room and less of a desire for cardio equipment. Not to say that there is not a time and place for cardio in our lives, but there is more to say about people finally catching on to the necessity of strength training.

Upon entering The Pit Unleashed, you are welcomed at the front door with a much smaller scale cardio selection than most commercial gyms. Follow us while we dive into our philosophy behind this particular decision.

Anyone who grew up weightlifting has encountered someone in their life who has hit them with the daunting statement, “Yes, but you won’t be able to lift like that forever! You can’t do that when you are older!” If you are anything like me, you will take this in as a personal attack on everything that you have ever known and loved about weight training. Why would the thing that I love eventually betray me and my wellbeing at a certain age? The answer is that it will not.

If you still believe that weightlifting is not the answer for you, we highly recommend you visit our partners at Body Mass in Chapel Hill. Body Mass is a body composition testing center that will scan your body and break down your muscular and skeletal health. The highly knowledgeable people over at Body Mass will be able to sit down with you and go over your results with you.

A section of body composition testing will go over your bone density and present a future risk of developing Osteopenia. The only way to steer clear of this risk in the gym is to up the importance on weight bearing exercises. The treadmill will not help you with this…you must place importance on your weight training. This is why we try to stock up on an abundance of strength equipment here at The Pit Unleashed.

So, what are you waiting for…?

Sign up for your body composition testing and hit the weight room!
